I remember the slogans during assembly - "WE WANT HALF DAY, WE WANT HALF DAY" & in any occasion all of them clapping together. I still remember the zero period, It was fun we use to have a blast for one hour, all sports and practices, more than half class use to bunk. We use put some washing neel into a half lemon slice. It used to smell very bad, and put that stuff under the platform. Then all class use to start SSSSSHHHEEEEE….!!!!
And who will forget Narshiya – The Goli wala, out side the school. All use to trouble him a lot and he use to give bad words. He also had a scheme; if you give 5 empty bags of sweets you get one sweet free. The best seller was churan ki goli. Some book seller was also there who had a good business. The best selling small book was KARAMCHAND weekly issue. haaaaaaaaaa. It was bought and read loudly in all the classes.
Best Bunking places were - Toilet, Library, tank near the Hostel, Our Toilet was full of good stories and nice very artistic drawings. The Empire Theater opp the school use to be full after school on friday as Posters were changed for the new coming up English movies. The table tennis at Gym Hall was fun, there was only one TT table and huge crowd in break, all use play rounders with books instead of a TT racket.
We had sports at sub area ground for 5 days, that five days were fun. Naaaa not because of sports, do I need to tell … ok there was Liberty Theater just next to the ground.
I remember Uncle & Aunty's ka Vada Pav,Samosa's & Chutni Sandwich at the School Canteen... All use to kick the canteen window when he was not around.

The School Prayer Every Morning:-
Dear God,
Dear God,
Help us to do the things we should to be to others kind and good In All we do at work or play,
Oh my god. We look upon you At the beginning of this day, As our lord and father, So that you may Guide us away from all sinsGuide us, oh lord we praySo that we may, always be blessed

With good thoughts, good words,And good deedsBless our school, our homesParents, guardians, and teachersBless the souls, Of all the foundersAnd patrons, Of this schoolGuide the leaders, Of our nation And preserve and strengthen The union of our countryPS: I wonder if any one in the Boys school followed it.
The best thing was unity among all the Dastur Guys. They use to stand united againts all odds. I miss Dastur a lot, what to say. The Boys school masti, I wish we could rewind the time.
As a Ghazal of Jajit Singh says:

Thanks for those lovely snaps Tanveer. I fully agree with you when you wish we had a rewind button for time. I wish we could go back in time!
Your snaps brought back some bitter but mostly sweet memories. And yes, who could forget those stalwarts like Farooq Sayyed and Daundkar and Palaskar.
Those were the days... And the days have gone away but memories indeed stay back! And you, by publishing these snaps, have ensured that these wonderful memories remain intact.

Woh school ke din....
Kuch baate bhuli hui,
kuch pal beete hue,
Har galti ka ek naya bahana,
aur fir sabki nazar me aana,
Exam ki puri raat jagna,
fir bhi sawal dekhake sir khujlana,
Mauka mile to class bunk marna,
fir doston k sath canteen jana
Har pal hai naya sapna,
aaj jo tute fir bhi hai apna,
Ye school ke din,
In lamho me jindagi jee bhar ke jeena,
Yaad karke in palon ko,
Fir jindagi bhar muskurana
Nice one.. NAMO :)

tanveer enjoyed ur post a lot bcos heard of wondrous people of hoshang frm my bro ''chakshu ''
the nostalgia u brought back made my day.those 10 yrs of my life were completely gold crusted , no less.just the precise definition of yrs flying away.for those moments '' zindagi is pal mein simat jaaye ya , yeh pal faail kar zindagi ban jaaye '' is most apt.was painful that no dasturian blogs till i cud find u.these pics rock.had a stroll in primary school this may ,they dint permit me to go into girls,my kid shot some of it on the cell.but ur pics rock ,keep up and go on!

Hi Tanveer, I must say you have a done a great and a really well researched job here :) Hopefully one of us girls will put up pictures of our side of the buildings and write fond memories too !! Full marks to you,
Anagha ( passed out 1990)
Hi Dasturians!!! This is Atul Kotkar here. I was nostalgic tonight and found Tanveers Site/Blog. The pictures took me into a trance! I studied in Dastur from 3rd standard upto the 11th. From 1968 to 1975. It was a great period, an entirely different era. Teachers I remember - MRS FERNANDES, MRS SOLOMON / KATKI, MRS NAGPURKAR, MRS GUSTAV, MRS SALVI, MRS KANTAK, MRS ANNAPURNA, MRS YEGANAGI, MRS GOLWALA/IRANI, MRS NILE / SHAIKH, MRS KETKAR, MRS. MASTER, GURAV SIR, MANORAM SIR, DAUNDKAR SIR, DN IRANI SIR, DOSHI SIR, PURANDARE SIR, RA WAFA SIR, FAROUKH SIR, GONDA SIR, KARANDIKAR SIR, ARTHAPUTH RAJ SIR, KULKARNI SIR, POONAWALA SIR, VINZE SIR; PRINCIPALS I REMEMBER - MRS DARUKHANAWALA (DIGNITY PERSONIFIED), MR KN VAKIL (KAWWA), MR JM IRANI (BULLDOG) & ALSO MRS. MOWDAWALA (WHO ALMOST HATED BOYS)OF GIRLS' SCHOOL. In fact I remember some Teachers from Girls' school as well, since my sisters studied there - MRS. RAJE, MRS. POSTWALLA.
I have had many great moments of my life in Dastur; and learnt many good lessons that helped me a lot in life - especially the discipline from being an NCC cadet; friendship from wonderful friends, developing a taste for English language because of the high level of English at Dastur. A student received an excellent overall development at Dastur. And yes, we had the best and the worst to experience - which gave us an insight into all aspects of life!
It shall be pleasure to interact and relive relations with fellow Dasturians (especially from my times). My cell no is +91-98220-12465; and my mail id is - atulkotkar3@gmail.com

Hi
I just read Atul Kotkar’s years in Dastur (1968-75) and the teacher's names he mentioned. I passed out in 1967 and it was interesting to note there were a lot of female teachers after I left. What a shame, I had to miss out on that, hopefully they were all pretty.
I remember most of the male teachers named, coincidently Mr D N Irani’s son was in my class.
Here are some other teachers I remember during my time, Mr Mene (Khadus Hindi Teacher – Namaste Guruji), Mr Dharap (Khadus but good teacher), Mr Jhankar (Craft Teacher & Free Loader) Mr Kedari (Art Teacher & NCC) Mr Ghosh (Teacher & NCC), Mr Udaicha (PT Teacher) and Mr Nimbalkar.
Principals Mr A G Aranha (Very Strict - later opened his Rosary/Military School nearby), Mr Nowrasji (Shendi Cut) and Mr Kewalramani.
I played cricket for the school, our coach was Coach Dinshaw Sorabji Doctor (Wicket Keeper played in a few First Class games for Maharashtra, Baroda & Western India). Some of my team-mates were Anoop Ghosh, Premjit Singh (WK), Balsera, Bhagwan Khemlani, Prakash Melwani, Bharat Jotwani and more.
So far I think I am the oldest school boy on your blog. Those were the good old days and these are the good new days.
Tanvir Bhai I must say you have got us family back together, hopefully we will all meet at the re-union in January 2012. I will definitely try to be there.
I hope all are doing well and wish you a VERY HAPPY PROSPEROUS & PEACEFULL 2010 AND BEYOND.

olden facts of our school. THANK YOU
I Really miss those days , Wished if it ever could come back in my life....That Canteen masti and magic :-) Proud to be a Dasturian and i miss my all dear friends !
Hey Tanveer,
Firstly thanks for the pictures. I am going to save them for my lifetime.
Secondly many many many thanks for in detail refreshing my school memories.
Some stuff I think you missed are the fence between girls and boys school. We knew all birthdays of pretty girls and used to sing Happy birthday alound on thier birthday. Also we used to eat dabba in short reccess so that we can play in the lunch recess. We used to play squash in classrooms with hands. We also used to wait for Girls basketball practice so that we can oogle those tall girls, same was true with girls hockey practise on our grounds
I met Sethi Ma'am last month she is still the same. She was with her teenaged girl. She invited me home and said its easy to remember her address. Its 88 like your sethi ma'am.
In my times Mrs Mathur was an excellent Hindi teacher. Even though I was good in lauguages and Marathi being my mother tounge I excelled in Hindi better.
Hey Tanveer .... thanks dude ...... got to refresh the memories..... and also the description of the teachers..awsummm.... the gr8 part was the bunking periods when H/W was not completed or done.... the moment the teacher came in it was either sir/ miss pls can I go to toilet ...... or pls can I go to have water.... after that the period was bunked in the places mentioned by you...... truly Jagjit Singh`s Ghazal " yeh kagaz ki kashti" is touching..... to all the 1991 batch keep in touch @ m_dcunha74@yahoo.com / facebook
Hey Tanveer..... thanks for posting the pics dude...... truly got to cherish the school days....and especially the descriptions of all our honorable teacher`s....it was awsum reading it ....and to all the 1991 batch ...we need to have a get together ... my mail id is m_dcunha74@yahoo.com

Great Job..I was studying from 1080 to 1984. My best teacher Zacharia. If you read call me +44 7779774856 UK. I have put picture in facebook of Sardar Dastur..
How nice to come across this blog... congratulations on a great job. Brought back so many precious memories. I was a Dastur school boarder from 1963 to 1974(SSC), and attended both primary and high school. I remember fondly so many of the teachers and others mentioned here. Back then school seemed rigorous and tedious, but in retrospect those years seem like some of the happiest times in our lives. Would like to give back to the school in some way at some point. Thanks for the memories.

Hi Tanveer
Felt very very nostalgic seeing your blog, school pictures etc. I passed way back in 1975. You took the pictures in 2006 and the building's looked the same in 1975. Saw all the teachers names and all were new except Gurav Sir, the NCC head. You have any idea if he still in school?
Is there any site for the Dasturians Alumni?
Have a great day
Cheers
Shreesh Kashyap
Hi Shreesh
Thanks for your comments, unfortunately Gurav sir is no more with us , he expired long back , secondly I have some pictures and also fb pages which I can share, give you email id.
